However, it turned out to be a tragic day for some people as the major bridge collapsed at the Strong River and caused several casualties and injuries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The collapsed bridge was already in the plan to be demolished as a part of the $25 million renovation project. The Strong River Bridge had stood for over 80 years, approximately 40 miles south of Jackson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) began this massive project in the spring of 2023 and chose the Columbia, Mississippi-based company T.L. Wallace to complete the construction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bridges across Sellers Creek and Dabbs Creek had already been replaced in Phase 1, and the Strong River Bridge was the next in line.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It had been closed for all kinds of vehicle movement from common traffic to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.my-equipment.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/6-types-of-earth-moving-machines\/\"><b>Heavy Moving Machinery <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since the middle of September and was being disassembled when the accident occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_impact_will_this_collapse_have_on_the_ongoing_project_plan\"><\/span><b>What impact will this collapse have on the ongoing project plan?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the terrible accident, the project renovation was\u00a0put on hold as local regulatory authorities and OSHA were trying to figure out the main causes behind the mishap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project&#8217;s original completion date of 12 to 18 months is now unknown, and any more building is probably going to be delayed until after a thorough safety evaluation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, an MDOT inspector who was on the scene when it collapsed was uninjured. For now, the authorities prioritize helping bereaved families and making sure that accidents like this don&#8217;t happen again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bridge, however, is the major route connector in the city which is now under the closure, affecting the major traffic flow. Although the planned route must be ready to divert the traffic, the sudden mishaps have created a mess in the area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Honouring_the_lives_of_injured_and_killed_workers\"><\/span><b>Honouring the\u00a0lives of injured and killed workers<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this tragic event, 3 workers lost their lives and 4 were injured as a consequence. T.L. Wallace released a statement expressing his profound sadness over the deaths of Charles Badger, Kevin Malone, and Charles Igleharte, three team members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through this unfathomable tragedy, the company has promised to support their families to the fullest extent feasible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by these professionals, the community has also united in mourning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_the_plan_ahead\"><\/span><b>What\u2019s the plan ahead?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On one side, the incident has made the situation miserable for the families of the\u00a0injured and killed. However, things didn\u2019t end here. Many questions were raised due to the sudden collapse of the bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the employees, assigned to the renovation projects are more scared to work on the site as they are concerned about the safety measures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MDOT department is currently waiting for the final investigation report to take further decisions as the plans and safety measures will be made based on facts found in the investigation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the end, this bridge project was intended to improve Mississippians&#8217; quality of life. These kinds of events show the major concerns and necessity of the safety measures at the site for the workers.
