There are a variety of jobsite conditions that fall somewhere between the 15-ton and 25-ton classes that are not well suited to either of the two machines. The CAT 315 can be capable and agile, but when it comes to lifting capacity or undercarriage width, there’s still room for improvement when it’s time to do more serious work or tackle bigger material handling challenges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many contractors are learning that the right-sized excavator can provide greater productivity than purchasing a larger excavator. This shift is reflected in recent <\/span>compact crawler excavator trends.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The CAT 325, however, is a tried-and-tested production machine, but might become a barrier on busy jobsites, on tight road clearances, or urban redevelopment jobs, where damage to surrounding structures is a risk. This is where the 319 CR was designed to fit in.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s approximately 44,100 pounds, right in the sweet spot of Caterpillar’s 46,000 to 48,000-pound class, and it offers the lift capacity, undercarriage width, and technology package necessary to perform where the 315 can’t do it, while still fitting the space requirements of the 325, which <\/span>Caterpillar<\/b><\/a> deemed a “poor fit on restricted sites.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the difference between the 319 CR and a mere size interpolation, how Caterpillar did it. Instead of creating an all-new platform, CAT’s engineers used the tried-and-tested powertrain, boom, stick, and bucket linkages of the traditional tailswing 317 and combined them with a longer, wider undercarriage with much of the parts commonality to CAT’s 20-ton machine family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The outcome is an engine that maintains the well-known stability and reliability of the working end while providing a significantly enhanced stability and lift envelope. A full set of built-in technology, grade systems, onboard payload, E-Fence, and tiltrotator compatibility makes the 319 CR more than just a size option; it’s a production machine that’s ready to deliver the agility and heavy-lifting power when they’re needed at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n
