Both the military and the construction industry continue to be impressed by JCB’s innovative streak. The company has now secured a significant $45 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps to supply a specially configured version of the model over the next five years, following the commercial launch of its next-generation 4CX backhoe loader earlier this year.

The agreement strengthens the 4CX’s standing as one of the most competent and adaptable backhoes in its class and represents another significant turning point in JCB’s longstanding partnership with the US military.

How can modern engineering be combined with military power?

Originally, the 109-horsepower JCB 4CX was created to meet the demands of contractors looking for a machine that would combine strength, speed, and accuracy. This backhoe loader for sale was ideal for military applications as well because of its sturdy foundation. With JCB’s Powerslide system, an important feature that allows operators to dig and work in confined spaces without continuously moving the machine, the Marines have opted for the side-shift version of the 4CX. In addition to improving maneuverability, this configuration increases the digging range by roughly 10%, which is a big help in demanding and uncertain environments.

The side-shift design is perfect for urban engineering, utility work, and tactical field operations because it permits full outrigger deployment even in confined spaces, unlike traditional center-mount models. The side-shift version’s transportability was further enhanced by JCB engineers, who reduced the machine’s overall length by roughly four feet, or 21% less than the center-mount configuration, while also enhancing weight balance for stability and easier hauling over uneven terrain.

JCB has designed its machine for excellence, accuracy and efficiency

With the help of JCB’s proprietary engine, which reduces fuel consumption by about 10% when compared to earlier generations, the 4CX offers a potent combination of performance and efficiency. For a variety of work settings, it comes in center-mount and side-shift boom configurations and can reach travel speeds of up to 26 mph. The machine is nimble enough for both military operations and construction sites thanks to its all-wheel steer and four equal-sized tires, which offer superior traction and a small turning radius.

With its remarkable 14-foot digging depth and 17-foot swing reach, the 4CX is incredibly versatile. Shovel return-to-grade, smooth ride control, Q-Fit quick coupler, and an equal-length boom and dipper arm for balanced, controlled operation are just a few of the performance-enhancing technologies that JCB has incorporated. Operators can confidently handle a range of lifting and loading tasks thanks to the tipping link’s integrated lifting point, which further increases material-handling efficiency.

Operators can get enough comfort on tough jobsites

The new 4CX’s interior has undergone a comprehensive redesign to provide operators with a more contemporary and integrated work environment. A thoughtful feature for both novice and experienced operators, a new 7-inch display offers complete customization and access to how-to videos that illustrate various machine functions. The forward, neutral, and reverse directional controls have been moved to the right-hand joystick, which minimizes movement and boosts productivity.

The automatic seat select system, which turns on the proper hydraulic functions when the operator rotates the seat between loader and excavator positions, is another clever feature. In addition to expediting operations, this guarantees more seamless transitions, particularly in hectic work settings.

How can the military be a reliable partner with JCB?

The U.S. military has previously received equipment from JCB. Because of its dependable and long-lasting equipment, the company has established a strong reputation with the military. The Marine Corps just last year awarded JCB a $39 million contract to supply Multi-Terrain Loaders, a military version of its Teleskid. Additionally, the company provides the U.S. Army with specialized equipment such as the Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklift and the High Mobility Engineer Excavator.

The 4CX is the culmination of over 70 years of engineering development and improvement, according to Chris Giorgianni, JCB North America’s Vice President of Government and Defense. Whether on a busy construction site or the battlefield, it is made to survive in some of the most extreme conditions. The model’s advanced design, dependability, and versatility are all demonstrated by the Marine Corps’ adoption of it.
