Volvo has updated its lineup of compact wheel loaders once more, and the most recent model, the L30, has a number of useful improvements that actually matter on hectic job sites. The way this machine handles, operates, and maintains operator comfort throughout the day will be immediately noticeable to contractors who work in material handling, landscaping, road maintenance, or municipal environments.

The L30, which has a standard 1.3-cubic-yard bucket and a 74-horsepower Volvo engine under the hood, is made to achieve the ideal balance between strength and maneuverability, particularly for teams that want small equipment with mid-size machine power.

An altered and re-designed cab

Inside the cab is one of the most significant changes that operators will notice. Volvo has replaced its outdated, button-heavy dashboard with a more streamlined design that is backed by a seven-inch screen. Several physical controls are replaced by the jog dial and the new screen, which makes the machine easier to learn and quicker to adjust while on the go. Because the controls and settings are much simpler, this also helps when switching between attachments. This smoother interface makes a significant difference on the job when a machine is expected to run buckets one moment and specialized tools like sweepers or small milling machines the next.

It is more compatible with attachments

The L30’s attachment setup reflects Volvo’s clear expectation that its owners will use it for a variety of tasks. Compatibility with work tools that need both power and electrical control is increased by auxiliary hydraulics and an eight-pin electrical connector, including more sophisticated attachments that are increasingly frequently found on municipal and road-maintenance heavy construction equipment. In order to facilitate quicker loading, stacking, and pallet handling, the loader can even be used in conjunction with Volvo’s pallet forks, which have tine shift and movement controls that operators can modify from within the cab.

This new compact loader needs low maintenance

For owners who want to minimize downtime, Volvo has made maintenance checks more difficult to overlook. The starter, filters, and washer reservoirs are just a few of the important maintenance locations that can be reached from the back. Lifting the hood is necessary even for refueling, so operators should open the engine compartment frequently rather than neglecting simple inspections. Even when performing heavy fork work, the machine’s separate gear pumps for hydraulics and steering help maintain smooth lift and steering performance.
