The market for construction equipment is still dominated by compact machines, as the first half of 2025 has confirmed. Compact track loaders and utility loaders kept overall demand high, but between January and June, more than 106,000 machines were financed, a slight decrease of 3.5 percent from the previous year, according to finance data.

How did compact equipment grab the market?

Once again, compact track loaders topped the charts, financing 34,385 units in just six months, far more than mini excavators (21,521) and larger equipment categories like wheel loaders and excavators.

Because of their affordability, adaptability, and robust financing options, they are appealing to both large contractors and smaller businesses.

What was the new equipment’s selling performance?

Kubota’s SVL75-3 was the most popular new model, closely followed by Bobcat’s MT100 mini track loader.

Strong demand was also seen for Caterpillar’s new 255 and 265 models, which replaced the D3 series with better lift capacities and higher breakout forces. The leaders were completed by Bobcat’s T66 and T770, Kubota’s SCL1000 stand-on loader, and Deere’s 325G and 333 P-Tier.

Why did compact track loaders top the list?

Compact track loaders once again took center stage on the used market. Leading models in financed transactions were the Kubota SVL75-2, Deere 333G, Case SV280B, Bobcat T770, and Cat 259D3.

These specific models have a reputation for checking all the right boxes, and buyers of used equipment frequently prioritize lower upfront costs, ease of resale, and proven reliability.

It’s interesting to note that although compact track loaders were the most popular, mid-sized categories were also in demand in the used market.

For instance, the Case 321F wheel loader was listed among the best-financed used construction equipment, demonstrating how contractors frequently use used loaders for bulk earthmoving and material handling without having to pay the high cost of a new purchase.

Which used equipment models were top-rated?

Reliable compact track loaders were once again used by contractors in the used market. Along with Cat’s 259D3, the most heavily financed vehicles were the Kubota SVL75-2, Deere 333G, Case SV280B, and Bobcat T770.

There is still a need for used workhorses that are less expensive up front, as evidenced by the inclusion of a few larger categories like the Case 321F wheel loader.

Which state tops the list?

With more than 12,000 machines financed in just six months, Texas remained the state with the most.

After Florida, which had almost 5,800 units, North Carolina, Georgia, and California all had more than 4,000 units.

Because they are actively building and developing their infrastructure, these states continue to be the biggest drivers of equipment demand.

What does it mean for the coming years?

Compact track loaders are keeping the market stable despite a minor decline from the previous year. While new models are pushing the boundaries of power and technology, contractors who are keeping an eye on their budgets continue to favor used models. In this compact category, competition may get even more fierce in the second half of 2025 as newer models like Kubota’s SVL97-3 hit the market.
